About

TAG is an interactive on-line magazine showcasing student writing and creativity from K-12, incorporating elements of writing, art, colour and design.

“Certainly, technology has changed.  But what has the greatest impact on us is how the nature of information has changed.  I believe that teachers and students should be blogging, not so that they can learn to blog, but so that they can learn to communicate.  In a couple of years, it will probably be a different tool.  But we’ll still be accomplishing our goals through the quality of our communication.”

David Warlick, Keynote Speaker for Literacy and Technology PL Day on March 9, 2009

  • maybe your student has just moved from Kenya and has a story to tell…
  • is there an exceptional writer in your classroom?

I read an article by Ian Jukes today that has supported and clarified some of the thoughts I have had about how we teach digital natives. He does an excellent job explaining the profound shift that needs to occur in our district and classrooms in order for us to engage digital learners and teach the skills they need for the 21st century. In his article Understanding the New Digital Landscape, Kids & the New “Digital Divide” Jukes states that “Today we face a widening digital divide – not on based on the gap between the technology have and have-nots – but by one resulting from the vast differences between how we grew up and how today’s generation are growing up.” My hope is that this blog will help us bridge the gap by giving us tools to reach and understand the non-sequential thinkers in our classrooms.

It would be nice to have a section that highlights art and writing by people with special needs. Perhaps a partnership with Nina Haggerty. The Autism Society just had an “Art for Autism” night. Would this be another way to promote understanding student differences?

this is a great medium for all students to share their work…. it’s colorful…. gives others a chance to comment… and provides an alternative and exciting way for teachers to share the many talents of their students….

Thank you for your compliment. That’s a great idea, but due to our limited resources and the scope of such a large job, we have no plans to make these older issues available on-line.

I just love kids artworks……….. promoting art within the family as well is really important for self esteem and creativity.

My grand father was an artist , my father was an artist , I’m an artist and now my son is too …… love it !

My daughter (artist) married an artist too so my grandson is one now too.

Great web site , all the best……

tnx
