I read an article by Ian Jukes today that has supported and clarified some of the thoughts I have had about how we teach digital natives. He does an excellent job explaining the profound shift that needs to occur in our district and classrooms in order for us to engage digital learners and teach the skills they need for the 21st century. In his article Understanding the New Digital Landscape, Kids & the New “Digital Divide” Jukes states that “Today we face a widening digital divide – not on based on the gap between the technology have and have-nots – but by one resulting from the vast differences between how we grew up and how today’s generation are growing up.” My hope is that this blog will help us bridge the gap by giving us tools to reach and understand the non-sequential thinkers in our classrooms.
Love the digital format, can I download it to my pocket pc?
It would be nice to have a section that highlights art and writing by people with special needs. Perhaps a partnership with Nina Haggerty. The Autism Society just had an “Art for Autism” night. Would this be another way to promote understanding student differences?
what a great opportunity for kids to become published
how will teachers find out about this so all kids have equal opportunity
easy to access and great sources of inspirations.
this is a great medium for all students to share their work…. it’s colorful…. gives others a chance to comment… and provides an alternative and exciting way for teachers to share the many talents of their students….
Congratulations to all – production, design and tech teams, contributing artists and writers, and teacher-mentors. Beautiful way to see your work, hear your voices. Engagement at its finest. Thank you all.
This is great job! I just wonder Is it possible to put all history MAGPIE magzine online too? Thank you very much!
Thank you for your compliment. That’s a great idea, but due to our limited resources and the scope of such a large job, we have no plans to make these older issues available on-line.
I just love kids artworks……….. promoting art within the family as well is really important for self esteem and creativity.
My grand father was an artist , my father was an artist , I’m an artist and now my son is too …… love it !
My daughter (artist) married an artist too so my grandson is one now too.

Hi!
What a beautiful forum for recognizing young visual artists! How do you get involved? I am pursuing an Education degree with a minor in Art. I also have experience in Publishing + Marketing.
Thanks,
