Artist’s Statement
I created this piece on Lucille Ball by getting assigned the fire theme. Ms. Salter told us to pick our photos carefully, to use the right colour tones, and to make it “hot”. I was very excited to find my photo of Lucille and work on her. I started by doing a simple line sketch of her. Then I filled the background with chromatic black. After that I did the face, the nose, and so on.
Love like Fire
I thought I loved him
Loved like fire,
Swallowing my thoughts
And taking me away.
Violently,
The fire was burning inside of me,
Telling me to speak of my desires
I knew I loved him
Loved like fire,
As I watched him sing,
Casting spells on me.
Violently,
The fire was burning inside of me,
Melting my heart once more.
Did I love him?
Love like a fire,
Unable to be stopped?
Violently,
The fire that was burning inside of me,
Hesitated to burn.
No he said.
The fire was blown gently by his words
And was diminished by tears.
