Greenpeace Hates Us

Artist’s Statement:

I used pastel and a warm/analogous scheme to create an aura of warmth. I also blended on the paper. My medium was pastel. The title, “Greenpeace Hates Us,” was thought of by the fact that this fire was arson, unsolved, and Greenpeace fights for environmental rights. I thought of them. Tribute!

The Might of Fire

Once upon a there time lived a little tiny fire
It blew through a forest with its huge mighty ire.
Fueled by the forest, it burns into the night
It burns continuously even after there is light.
The fire cuts through everything it meets
From insects that chatter to birds that tweet.
As it ravages through the well-charred woods
It deprived wanderers of their lives and goods.
As the fire continues to destroy all
It does not realize that it’s going to fall.
Along came a river down from the mountains
It streaks down the sides like a volcanic fountain.
The river races down to subdue the flames
And relinquishes the threat it must claim.
The forest resists the fire once again and survives
However, the forest must rebuild to become fully alive.
Even though the body has slipped away
The spirit of fire lives on as bright as day.
