The Olympic Flame

The Olympic Torch is very special because it is a symbol of peace and brotherhood. At the Olympics people from all over the world gather together. It will go all around Canada in a crazy zig zag path to visit 1 020 places. My friend’s dad gets to carry the torch when it comes to Edmonton. When people see the torch, it might remind them of the first Olympics in Greece. This year they lit the torch in Greece and brought the flame over to Canada in a lantern on an airplane. The torch relay will end in Vancouver when a runner will come into the stadium and light the cauldron and start the games. The Olympic fire stays lit while the games are on. We had a torch relay game in the gym. We crossed off one box for every lap that we ran. We did 106 laps just like there are 106 days in the torch relay. Maybe one day I might carry the Olympic torch for real.

Dara, you sure know a lot about the Olympic Torch. DId you see it coming into the Stadium at the Opening Ceremomy last night? It was amazing when they lit the cauldron to start the games.
